Fuel cell vehicles promise to revolutionize the world of motoring, but unfortunately they’ve been limited by small production runs and few refueling stations.

Hyundai is hoping to change that as the first production ix35 Fuel Cell has rolled off the assembly line at the company’s plant in Ulsan, South Korea. Destined to become a fleet vehicle for the City of Copenhagen or Skåne, Sweden, the model will be one of 17 ix35 FCs used by the municipalities.

Hyundai plans to build 1,000 ix35 Fuel Cells, by 2015, which will be primarily targeted at European governments and private fleets. After 2015, Hyundai believes lowered production costs and an improved hydrogen infrastructure will enable the company to begin producing FCVs for retail customers.

As we have previously reported, the model has a fuel cell stack that converts hydrogen into electricity which powers an electric motor. This enables the ix35 FC to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 12.5 seconds, hit a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph) and travel up to 594 km (369 miles) on a single tank of hydrogen.

Theophilus Chin decided to give the new Cherokee a different front fascia which looks significantly better than the real version.

After envisioning a MINI rival from Mercedes-Benz, Theophilus Chin is back to fix the 2014 Cherokee’s bold yet unappealing front. The most significant change would have to be the addition of regular headlights instead of those Juke-styled lights. He also moved the grille a bit lower and made other minor changes.

Overall, the car looks a lot better and many will think this should have been the real 2014 Cherokee instead of what we’ll see next month at the New York Auto Show when the vehicle will get its public debut.

Track-oriented three-wheeled race cars are a niche market that belongs to a select few of vehicles, including the Campagna T-Rex 14RR, the Morgan Three-Wheeler, and the Can-Am Spyder.

If these recent U.S. Patent Office sketches are any indication, it looks like recreational automaker wants to join in on the party with their version, the Slingshot.

Considering that Polaris is regarded as an eccentric auto brand that has a penchant to build some wonky off-roaders, we’re not the least bit surprised that their next project is something along those lines.

The sketches reveal, first and foremost, a three-wheeled vehicle whose overall bodywork - minus the chassis configuration - resembles that of the KTM X-Bow. It might even resemble it a little too much; something we think KTM might even have a problem with should Polaris green light production for the Slingshot.

Regardless, that’s not our business to dive into. As far as we’re concerned, the Slingshot looks pretty cool and if it can have the same amount of power as its competitors possess - somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower - it should make for an awesome ride.

If the car ever reached production, it’d likely feature a 2.4-liter General Motors-sourced four-cylinder engine delivering just over 200 horsepower and mated to a manual transmission.

Just like the Morgan 3 Wheeler, the Polaris Slingshot will be driven by its single rear-wheel and even though no details have been released about a possible release date, this lightweight and most-likely affordable sports car is something to get truly excited about!

Last week we brought you some leaked images of the new Cherokee, and we found them rather hard to believe. Well, Jeep has now dropped the first official images of the company’s new model described as “the most capable and versatile mid-size SUV in the world,” and the linked images were 100-percent accurate. The Cherokee’s official debut will be made at the end of March at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

Jeep offered no official details on the new Cherokee just yet, but the automaker states that it will set a new standard with “even more best-in-class capability, exemplary on-road driving dynamics, and fuel economy improvements of more than 45% versus the outgoing mid-size SUV model,” - aka Jeep Liberty.

Jeep decided to keep everything a secret until the model is launched in New York, but you can notice a design like never seen before on any other Jeep model, with the most interesting feature being those new, odd-looking headlights.

The new Cherokee will be built at the company’s assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio and will be put on sale in the third quarter of this year.

ABT Sportsline always makes some noise at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and this year, you better get ready because the German aftermarket company is prepared to drop the boom.

With a number of programs headed to the biggest auto show of the year, ABT Sportsline is determined to show the gathered masses that it’s one of the best Audi tuners in the world. And what better way to prove that point by bringing a new program for the German brand’s resident supercar: the [http://www.topspeed.com/cars/audi/2013-audi-r8-v10-ar132905.html].

The GTR program for the R8 GT was actually developed sometime back, but the one that’s going to Geneva is a revised version that features new and exciting modifications. With every intention of shaving off some weight to make the R8 lighter and faster, ABT Sportsline fitted the German supercar with a new carbon-fiber aero kit that includes a new hood, front and rear aprons, new side skirts and a rear wing. With all these new components in tow, ABT was able to shave 242 pounds off of the R8, no small feat for a car that now weighs just 3,340 pounds. Rounding out the exterior mods include a set of 19-inch forged alloy wheels a new stainless-steel exhaust system, and a coil-over sports suspension with adjustable dampers.

For the engine - the unquestioned highlight of the GTR program - ABT Sportsline did its usual array of magic tricks on the R8’s 5.2-liter FSI engine, increasing the output from 550 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque all the way up to an impressive 620 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.

With these modifications, the German supercar is now capable of hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds - three-tenths of a second faster than the production model. It is capable of hitting a top speed of 202 mph, a significant job from the standard R8’s 193 mph top speed.

History
According to Kia Motors, the name “Kia” derives from the Sino-Korean words ki (“to come out”) and a (which stands for Asia), it is roughly translated as “arise or come up out of Asia” or “rising out of Asia”.

South Korea’s oldest car company, Kia was founded in 1944 as manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycles. In 1952, Kia changed its name from Kyungsung Precision Industry, and later built motorcycles, trucks and cars. Starting in 1986, in partnership with Ford, Kia produced several Mazda derived vehicles for both domestic sales in South Korea and exports into other countries. These models include the Pride (based on the Mazda 121) and Avella, which were sold in North America and Australasia as the Ford Festiva and Ford Aspire.

In 1992, Kia Motors America was incorporated in the United States. The first Kia-branded vehicles in the United States were sold from four dealerships in Portland, Oregon in February 1994. Since then, Kia expanded methodically one region at a time. Dealers in 1994 sold the Sephia, and a few years later the United States line expanded with the addition of the Sportage.

However, Kia’s bankruptcy in 1997, part of the Asian financial crisis, resulted in 51% of the company being acquired in 1998 by South Korean rival Hyundai Motor Company, outbidding Ford Motor Company which had owned an interest in Kia Motors since 1986. Subsequently, however, Hyundai has divested some of its ownership of Kia Motors, and currently Hyundai Kia Automotive Group owns less than 40% of the company.

Kia Motors America (KMA) is the sales, marketing and distribution arm of Kia Motors Corporation based in Seoul, South Korea. Kia Motors Europe
Kia Motors Europe (KME) is the European sales and marketing division of Kia Motors Corporation (KMC). In 2007 KME moved from its previous location at Hauptstrasse 185, Eschborn, Frankfurt to a new purpose built facility adjacent to the Messe in Frankfurt city centre.

From 1995 to 1999 Kia produced left and right hand drive versions of the Sportage SUV at the Karmann factory in Germany. From 1999 until production of the model ceased in 2003, all Sportage production reverted to South Korea.

Kia began importing cars to Europe in early 1991, initially selling just the Pride mini-car. It initially proved popular with buyers but sales fell towards the end of the decade and the end of production was finally announced in May 2000, with its successor - the Rio - not going on sale for another year.

The European range expanded in 1994 when Kia began importing the larger Mentor, a range of medium sized hatchbacks and sedan which were marketed as cheap and well-equipped alternatives to the likes of the Ford Escort and Vauxhall/Opel Astra. A facelift in 1999 saw the Mentor name retained for the saloon, but the hatchback was renamed Shuma. These models remained on sale until 2004, when the newer Cerato was launched and gave Kia one of its first serious competitors for mainstream brands.

The Sportage SUV range has been popular across Europe, but since 2002 Kia has gained more sales in this market thanks to the launch of the larger Sorento.

Kia did not enter Europe’s large family car market until the launch of its Credos four-door sedan in 1999. This car was similar in size to the Ford Mondeo, but on its launch was actually cheaper to buy than the smaller Focus. It had a spacious interior, large boot, competitive asking price and high equipment levels, but it had little more appeal to sway buyers away from established European brands like Ford Motor Company, Vauxhall/Opel, Renault and Peugeot. Its successor, the Magentis, launched in 2001, was still nowhere near as popular as Kia might have hoped it would be.

Kia entered the MPV market in 1999 with the Sedona. On its launch, it was the cheapest full-size people carrier on sale in the United Kingdom.

2004 saw the commencement of European imports for the Kia Picanto city car. It has proved very popular with budget buyers in most of Europe.

As of 2007, Kia has been importing cars to Europe for 16 years. On its arrival, just one model was being sold. The range has gradually expanded over that time so the marque has a competitor in just about every sector except for the luxury and sports market. Sales of its products have so far failed to match those of established European brands, but current sales records have been impressive for a marque which only arrived in Europe at the start of the previous decade.

Kia Motors America (KMA) will add another vehicle to its line-up in 2008, the Soul crossover utility vehicle (CUV). Announced at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit that it will become a production vehicle, the Soul was originally unveiled as a concept car during the 2006 Detroit show. A collaborative effort between Kia’s design studio in California and design studio in Korea, it will go on sale at the end of 2008.

“The Soul’s aggressive and youthful styling is raising the bar for vehicles in its segment, and we are excited that it will be joining the ever-expanding Kia line-up in 2008,” said Len Hunt, executive vice president and COO of KMA. “The flexibility, function and utility this vehicle provides, as well as its dynamic appearance, further demonstrate Kia’s commitment to producing vehicles that create passion with consumers.”

The architecture of the Soul’s stance is reflective of its sporting and confident character. A wrap-around windshield, muscular wheel flares, stylish front headlamps and a sloped roofline help convey Soul’s athletic appearance, which is geared toward satisfying customers with an active lifestyle. The Soul’s exterior exudes an athletic presence, while several design cues lend a svelte, edgy look indicative of urban attitude.

Atop the sloped roofline is an automatic panoramic sun/moon roof. The front section of the panoramic roof slides backward and fits over of the rear section allowing for open-air driving with unobstructed views for both front and rear passengers. Also up top are roof racks integrated into the Soul’s design with rails for sliding objects forward and backward.

A symmetrical combination headlight design incorporates the headlamps and grille opening in a functional layout, while the front brush guard with integrated fog lamps is functional and helps convey the Soul’s SUV toughness. Side vents add some character while helping to cool the engine compartment.

The Soul’s side panel construction was designed with safety in mind and is strong enough to allow “freestyle” passenger doors (rear-hinged in back) that, when opened, reveal the lack of a B pillar, which makes for easier ingress and egress. High taillight placement lends to a contemporary look but also to better visibility and safety for occupants.

A rear brush guard smoothly envelopes the license plate underneath a power lift gate activated by the key fob. And the rear lift gate includes a unique backpack compartment that can be configured to accommodate an individual’s active lifestyle needs; it folds out like a mail slot for wet or muddy items such as a wetsuit and hiking shoes, or even a skateboard depending on its configuration.

The Soul’s interior was inspired by high-quality audio equipment, with the front dash designed around the front audio speakers rather than the other way around. Soul’s premium audio system will please music lovers and the speakers are strategically located at the best positions to maximize audio performance and sound quality.

Furthering the multimedia entertainment system is a notebook computer with a multi-purpose video game monitor housed in the glove compartment area. The notebook sits on a tray that swings outward when the vehicle is stationary and becomes accessible to either the passenger or driver seating positions. The multimedia system includes Blue-tooth and MP3 technology as well as multiple USB ports, Wi-Fi and telematics. Video monitors that fold up and out airline style from the center console, which runs the length of the cabin, are available for rear seat passengers’ entertainment.

Cabin ambiance is accentuated by upscale interior lighting. Instead of a typical dome light there is a lighting element surrounding each panoramic sun/moon roof. The same lighting technique is used in the door trim and is reminiscent of limousine interior lighting, adding to the Soul’s urban, social feel.

The Soul’s shape promises lots of interior space relative to its footprint; though small on the outside, the Soul is big inside with practical interior room and a reconfigurable cargo space. Two semi-bucket seats in front comfort the driver and front passenger, while flat-folding rear seats create even more storage space when desired.

The front-drive Soul is powered by a 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder gasoline engine. The powerplant is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability and adaptive cruise control for active driver control and convenience.

For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Gyr.

“The R8 is the first production Audi bearing the name and genes of a successful racing sportscar and is therefore an excellent base from which to build up our first big customer sport programme, explains Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. “Ever since the R8 was unveiled weve been inundated with enquiries about a race version. With the Audi R8 we will offer customers a racing sportscar equipped with high-calibre technology and the typical Audi qualities, but which is nevertheless easy to handle.

The Audi R8 conforms to the production-based GT3 regulations allowing the car to be fielded in numerous national and international race series.

Because the GT3 regulations prohibit the use of four-wheel drive the Audi R8 comes with the typical GT rear-wheel drive. The power is transmitted via a newly developed six-speed sequential sports gearbox. The suspension uses almost exclusively components from the production line. A comprehensive list of safety equipment guarantees the highest-level of passive safety. A modified front end and a large rear-wing generate the required downforce for the race track.

The Audi R8, which bears the project name “R16 within Audi Sport, was developed under the direction of Audi Sport. Mid August, the first prototype successfully completed a roll-out in the hands of Audi factory driver Frank Biela.

The first test races in various European racing series are scheduled for the 2009 season. Delivery to the customers is planned from the autumn of this coming year.

The customer cars are manufactured together by Audi Sport and the quattro GmbH, which is also responsible for production of the Audi R8 street version, and Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. (Gyr).

ABOUT HUMMER

Hummer is a brand of off-road vehicles sold by General Motors (GM). The original Hummer H1 was based on the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee). However, the Hummer H2 and the Hummer H3 were based on other, smaller civilian-market vehicles.

Hummers were originally built by AM General Corporation, which was formerly AMC Jeep’s General Products division, in its Mishawaka, Indiana assembly plant. They were created under a contract for the United States armed forces. The first model, the Hum-Vee, was built in a variety of military-based equipment and versions. These included troop carriers, gun turrets and radar. The U.S. military, on receiving their quota, have adapted some of the vehicles, including modifications to facilitate a directional microwave crowd control beam (Active Denial System).

AM General began to make plans to sell a civilian version of the vehicle after the military model received so much public interest in the late 1980s. In 1990, two matching white Hum-Vees were driven from London to Beijing over the rough roads of central Soviet Union. The Hummers made the trip with ease, for they were built to drive on off-road terrain. The highlights of this journey were broadcast in the United States on ESPN. This publicity would pale in comparison to the attention that the Hum-Vee received for its service in Operation: Desert Storm the following year. Also, a privately-owned Hum-Vee was modified into the first Snow-Vee, including the addition of caterpillar tracks, a new rear compartment and a new engine. This vehicle was designed for use in and just below the Arctic Circle, and the Antarctic.

In 1992, AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Hum-Vee) vehicle to the public under the brand name “Hummer”.

In 1998, AM General sold the brand name to General Motors, but continued to manufacture the vehicles. GM is responsible for the marketing and distribution of all Hummers produced by AM General. In the next few years, GM introduced two new homegrown models, the H2 and H3, and renamed the original vehicle H1. AM General continued to build the H1 until it was discontinued in 2006, and is contracted by GM to produce the H2. The H3 is built in Shreveport, LA alongside the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups, with which it shares the GMT-355 platform (custom modified and designated GMT-345).

By 2006, the Hummer also began to be exported and sold through importers and distributors in 33 countries.[3] On 10 October 2006, GM began producing the Hummer H3 at its Port Elizabeth plant in South Africa for international markets. The Hummers built there at first were only left-hand drive, but right-hand drive versions were added and exported to Australia and other markets.

The H2 is also assembled in Kaliningrad, Russia, by Avtotor, starting in June 2004. The plant produces a few hundred vehicles annually, and its output is limited to local consumption (five dealers in Russia initially).

On June 3, 2008, one day prior to GM’s annual shareholder meeting, Rick Wagoner, GM’s CEO at that time, said the brand is being reviewed, and has the possibility of either being sold, having the production line completely redesigned, or being discontinued. This is due to the decreasing demand for large SUVs as a result of higher oil prices. Almost immediately after the announcement, a pair of Indian automakers, including Mahindra & Mahindra, expressed interest in purchasing all or part of Hummer.
On February 17, 2009, GM announced that it would decide by March 31, 2009, whether to sell off or eliminate the Hummer. However, the announcement has been delayed. As of April 2009, the company has no plans to continue the nameplate after the 2010 model year.

GM President Fritz Henderson stated several interested parties approached GM regarding the Hummer business.

On April 5, 2009, Soci t de Participation Financi re Eidos Canada Inc. made an unsolicited bid for Hummer.

On June 1, 2009, as a part of the General Motors bankruptcy announcement, the company revealed that the Hummer brand would be discontinued. However, the following day GM announced that instead it had reached a deal to sell the brand to an undisclosed Chinese company. On 2 June 2009, CNN and The New York Times identified the buyer of the Hummer truck unit as China-based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company. Later that day, Sichuan Tengzhong confirmed the sale on their own website.

On June 26, 2009 Chinese state radio announced that the bid by Sichuan Tengzhong to buy Hummer would be blocked on environmental grounds and that the National Development and Reform Commission would also block the bid as Sichuan Tengzhong “lacks expertise in car production”. Tengzhong was expected to keep HUMMER a U.S.-based company. Though an exact location had not been selected, HUMMER global headquarters would have been in the United States.[13] Under the terms of the agreement, Tengzhong would have initially contracted production and major components to General Motors.

GM’s sale of HUMMER to Tengzhong would not have included any HUMVEE military technology, since HUMVEE technology and production are owned exclusively by AM General, not General Motors.

Kleemann’s Vision of the CLS
Kleemann has created a most desirable car in the form of the new CLS 50K S8. This beautifully styled four-door has the aesthetics of a coupe and the practicality of a saloon. In full Kleemann trim it is powered by a V8 Kompressor engine, which generates an output of 595 bhp and 568 lb-ft of torque.

The power of the V8 engine is mainly due to the efficiency of the Kleemann Kompressor system. In addition the ECU of the CLS engine is reprogrammed and application specific Super Sport camshafts are fitted. To further improve the engines gas flow the 5.0 litre V8 is mounted with tubular headers in stainless steel and a complete dual stainless steel exhaust system utilizing four steel racing catalysts. As the finishing touch to it all, the Kleemann CLS 50K S8 exhaust system comes with two Trapezoid-shaped rear mufflers.

The engine conversion gives the car great performance and the Kleemann Limited Slip Differential (LSD) secures maximum wheel traction. The acceleration from standstill to 62 mph is 4,7 seconds. 125 mph km/h is reached after just 13,5 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 186 mph (300 km/h).

To meet the big performance potential of the Kleemann CLS 50K S8, Kleemann has developed various upgrades in terms of wheels, suspension and brakes.

Driving dynamics are enhanced by a Kleemann developed electronic body lowering module (EBL) for the standard AIRMATIC DC suspension. The EBL lowers the ride height by up to 1.4 inches. In addition to adding a stunning look to the car the lowered ride height and the firmer suspension provided by the Kleemann Suspension Tuning Module improves cornering agility by reducing body roll. For the CLS 350 with conventional springs and dampers Kleemann provides a Speed Sensitive sports suspension with lower springs and progressive dampers.

The safety aspect is handled by the Kleemann high performance brake system, which is designed for maximum deceleration and high fading resistance. Fitted with the largest KB-3 Kleemann High Performance brake system the Kleemann CLS features 396 x 36 mm vented and cross-drilled two-piece brake discs with six piston forged callipers in the front, and 342 x 28 mm vented and cross-drilled two-piece brake discs with four piston forged callipers in the rear. All Kleemann brake systems come with separate left and right discs.

The Kleemann CLS 50K S8 comes with a choice between the classic two-piece TM-5 and the three-piece forged TS-6 light alloy wheel, which can be fitted to the car in sizes ranging from 18- to 20-inches in diameter. The largest possible combination is the Kleemann TS6 alloy wheel in size 9.5JX20 for the front axle with 255/30 ZR20 tires, and 11X20 with 305/25 ZR20 tires on the rear.

The powerful-looking wheels comply well with the aerodynamic enhancement parts available for the new coupe. The Kleemann front spoiler is made from high quality materials and is easily attached to the production bumper. Besides emphasizing the cars intriguing design it also ads a more sporty and attractive look. The spoiler features integrated air ducts for cooling of the front brakes and reduces lift on the front axle which improves directional stability at high speed. The rear spoiler consists of two diffuser channels and makes provision for the Kleemann rear mufflers.

The boot lid spoiler is designed to provide down force on the rear axle and its design complies perfectly with the lines and curves of the car.

Another focal point of refining the Kleemann CLS 50K S8 is the interior. Kleemann offers an extensive programme ranging from full leather to a combined leather/alcantara interior. The Kleemann programme also includes a wide selection of individual accessories such as illuminated entrance panels with Kleemann logo, and an ergonomic Kleemann sports steering wheel with a choice of leather, leather/wood or leather/carbon trim. The finishing touch to the interior is genuine wooden or carbon inlays on the dashboard, centre console and door covers which creates a sporty yet comfortable and exclusive feeling.

Comfort is definitely a key word for the interior modifications carried out on the C20K.

Illuminated logo branded entrance panels welcome you when entering the car. Stock upholstery has been replaced with leather/Alcantara seats featuring a single Kleemann metal logo. The ergonomically shaped steering wheel is leather covered with small inlays of carbon fibre as an option. Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Overall, the engineering team have achieved a weight reduction of 110 kg (243 lb) compared with the Bentley Continental GT Speed. - The evolution of the Bentley Continental Supersports’ design is very much a case of ‘form following function’ with new purposeful sculptural forms signalling the engineering changes beneath the skin. For example, the increased power and torque of the W12 engine necessitated additional airflow to the twin turbocharger intercoolers and cooling system. Bentley’s designers responded with a purposeful and dramatic style that features large vertical intake apertures and twin bonnet vents. Similarly, new flared rear wings that accommodate the 50 mm (2 inches) wider rear track are designed to emphasise the powerful stance of this ultra-high performance coupe. Teaser shots for Bentley’s new 2010 Continental Supersports have been making their way round the internet for the past couple of weeks, but today Bentley was finally ready to unleash exhaustive details on their new E85-capable 621 horsepower Continental Supersports 2 seat supercar.

The Continental Supersports shares most body pieces and drivetrain architecture with the Continental GT Speed, though both interior and exterior have been beefed up to handle all that extra power. New are larger standard 20 inch wheels with what Bentley boasts are the largest and strongest brakes on any production car.

The Continental Supersports also gets a trick automatically deploying rear spoiler that is completely hidden in the sublime bodywork. Wider track relative to Continental GT Speed models necessitates new flared fenders, and enlargened inlets feed air through the twin-turbocharged air intake system.

E85 ethanol, while clean-burning and mostly eco-friendly, is more corrosive than conventional gasoline. Thus, Bentley has replaced most of the engine internals in its turbocharged W12 powerplant. All the rings, seals and gaskets are unique to the Continental Supersports, meaning a greater focus on extreme performance is possible with this engine.

The Continental Supersports gets a modified version of the AWD system found in lesser Continental models. In this application, the AWD system distributes 40 percent torque to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear by default. Through the use of electronic locking differentials torque can be reapplied as the situation requires, naturally.

The 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports currently has a release date this Spring, though Bentley says US models are still waiting on regulators’ approval to run on the E85 spewing out of North American pumps. The car is adequately engineered, and the British motor company expects full ethanol certification by August.
